Local Futures

If you want to contribute to systemic change, one of the most important things you can do is to engage in ‘big picture activism’.

Big picture activism means pointing out that the economic, ecological and humanitarian issues we care about are all connected, and share a common root cause in an out-of-control global economic system. It means going beyond single-issues and the left-right political divide to communicate to others how scaling down and localizing economic activity is an effective and strategic ‘solution multiplier’. Big picture activism also means sharing information about the many thousands of grassroots initiatives underway around the world that demonstrate the systemic benefits of localizing.

In the last few decades, humanity has faced an unrelenting series of crises, each one more serious than the last. The good news is that the potential to build a united movement – one powerful enough to bring about fundamental change – is greater now than ever before.

Our World Localization Day program is a treasure-trove for big picture activists

Featuring voices such as Noam Chomsky, Jane Goodall, V (Eve Ensler), Vandana Shiva, Charles Eisenstein, Russell Brand, Brian Eno and many more, the program showcases living hope for a healthy future, and outlines the systemic global-to-local shifts needed to get there.
