SUMMARY:Invasive Species Technician
DESCRIPTION:The Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District (TSWCD) is excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for an Invasive Species Technician! The application deadline is Friday\, June 7th at 12 PM. \nThis position will assist and report to the Invasive Species Program Coordinator regarding invasive species (plant or animal) data collection in the field\, data processing in the office\, and herbicide application to control smaller infestations of priority invasive plants at various new and existing properties within Washington County. The Invasive Species Technician will also communicate and/or coordinate (verbally or in writing) with landowners and provide presentations to the public about identifying and reporting priority invasive species. \nThe following education\, experience\, and certification is required to perform the duties of the position: \n\nMinimum of 18 months professional experience conducting invasive weed or plant surveys\, applying herbicides to control weeds\, and working with private landowners.\nA working knowledge of Microsoft Office products\, i.e. Excel\, Word\, PowerPoint;\nWorking knowledge of ESRI products; i.e. ArcGIS\, ArcCollector;\nMinimum of one year’s experience communicating orally to small and large groups.\nStrong written and oral communication skills;\nA strong knowledge of native and non-native plant species.\n\nMust have a valid Oregon driver’s license and clean driving record. (Clean to be determined by the TSWCD insurance carrier) \nThe following experience is preferred to perform the duties of the position: \n\nBachelor’s degree in biology\, botany\, ecology\, environmental science\, crop science or forestry;\nOregon Public Pesticide Applicator license with:\n\no Laws and Safety \no One additional category\, i.e. Aquatic\, Forestry\, Right of Way\, Herbicide Ag\, Regulatory Weed\, Turf & Ornamental Herbicide\, etc. \n\nAt least two years of field experience in the Pacific Northwest identifying native and invasive species (plant or animal). (Be prepared to identify species);\nAt least one year of working experience using ArcGIS (bring in sample work);\nAt least one year of current working relationships with Washington County\, Oregon landowners.\n\n\nThe position is full-time starting at $42\,000-$48\,400 per year plus benefits. Medical and dental insurance are available after 60 days. 100% TSWCD-paid short-term disability\, long-term disability\, and life insurance available after 180 days. DESCRIPTION:On June 4 history will be made here in Portland. 21 young people are suing the federal government for their constitutional rights to life\, liberty\, and property. The Youth v. Gov case (AKA Juliana v. US) has its latest and most pivotal court date yet\, right here in our city.\n\n\nRSVP here!\n\n\nOn June 4\, they will have a hearing before the 9th Circuit Court here in Portland to rule on two issues:\n\n\nWhether the case is constitutional\, and should thus be heard by the supreme court\, and;\nWhether the plaintiffs’ injunction to stop all new fossil fuel infrastructure projects will be accepted. (This injunction would stop all fossil fuel expansion operations in the US until the end of the trial!!)\n\n\n\nThis is a BIG DEAL!!\nWe need to show the judges\, the politicians\, and the world\, that we support these young people and that this case must go forward! This will be a giant movement moment for the whole world\, happening right here in our city. 1\,000 people will be in attendance. The Council is a non-profit organization with a mission to preserve\, protect and enhance the watershed. We conduct restoration of public and private lands near the Slough\, educational events and workshops large and small\, canoeing and kayaking events and nature festivals and manage a robust youth education program. The council provides numerous low to no-cost opportunities to play and learn in the watershed.  \n  \nOur office of 5-8 staff members is located in Northeast Portland adjacent to Whitaker Ponds Nature Park. The triple bottom line\, which Sustainable Finance advocates\, measures not only economic returns\, but also positive environmental and social returns. In this e-learning participants will learn about sustainable financial products\, ESG risks\, market trends\, regulation and the challenges ahead. \nThe e-learning course shares valuable insights of the Strategic Alliance of GIZ and SEB and our technical partner CICERO\, gained during activities in emerging economies and interactions with market participants worldwide. The Educator will give approximately 90 workshops per year\, sharing safety and conservation skills with hundreds of participants\, and will clean and distribute 30 HEPA vacuums per year. \nESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES  \n Teaching Workshops and Program Coordination \n\nCoordinate and conduct workshops: scheduling\, facilitating\, teaching\, outreach\, and registration.\nManage supplies: assemble workshop kits\, ordering and distribution.\nThoroughly clean and distribute HEPA vacuums for loan program.\nWork with volunteers to lead presentations\, assemble kits\, enter data\, and conduct follow-up phone surveys. SUMMARY:Seeking volunteers to help monitor wildlife cameras on Mt Hood
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed to help with a long term survey of rare carnivores on Mt Hood. Help search for wolverine and wolves\, study the distribution of rare montane red fox\, and document other resident carnivores. \nVolunteers will be part of a group of 5-6 people that is responsible for a camera for the summer season\, June to October.  \nOrientation sessions are Sunday May 19\, 2:30-4:00pm and Tuesday May 28\, 6:00-7:30pm (choose one). You’ll learn more about the project\, and what is expected of you as a volunteer\, and why volunteer-driven science is so important in efforts to protect imperiled wildlife. Alex Counts is doing a book tour throughout the United States\, and you can hear first hand about his new book release ‘Changing the World Without Losing Your Mind’ and his experience working in international development. Alex Counts founded Grameen Foundation and became its President and CEO in 1997\, after having worked in microfinance and poverty reduction for 10 years. Alex his book will describe the key lessons the author learned related to nonprofit leadership\, management\, fund-raising\, and governance gleaned from three decades working in the trenches of social change.
