SUMMARY:Life Cycle Assessment
DESCRIPTION:Sustainability practitioners are frequently confronted with a tough question: “How do I measure that?” Here’s how.\n\n\n\n\nThis is a survey course on life cycle assessment. Participants will learn the steps involved and gain a basic understanding of the scope\, challenges and possibilities in applying life cycle assessment to decision-making processes. An introduction to the use of LCAs to support Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) based on Product Category Rules (PCRs) will also be included. \nThis course provides an overview for sustainability practitioners wondering if LCA would be a good field to get into; who may need to hire a firm to do a detailed LCA and need to know enough about the process to oversee the project; need to understand LCA to produce Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)\, especially those interested in having their products eligible for LEED credit points in the building and construction industry; or who need an introduction to LCA before taking the ‘deep dive’ into certification training as a practitioner.\n\nIt will be $25 for members and $55 for non-members. Successful completion of all course requirements will earn a passing grade and an individualized Certificate of Completion\, along with 1 CEU for ISSP-SA and ISSP-CSP credential holders.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nINSTRUCTOR\nJeff Yorzyk is a veteran of environmental and sustainability management consulting\, now bringing it all together for one company in the rapidly growing meal kit space. In the course of his consulting career\, Jeff worked on numerous Life Cycle Assessment projects\, and advised large brands\, trade associations and even a technology start-up on their use and communication. As a result\, he will forever bring a life cycle perspective to his work as a sustainability professional. He is also the Former President of the ISSP Board of Directors.\n\n \nRegister today!

SUMMARY:2019 Walk with Refugees & Immigrants
DESCRIPTION:The third annual Walk with Refugees & Immigrants is presented by PP&R’s Parks for New Portlanders program in conjunction with the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s Sunday Parkways\, local nonprofits and refugee and immigrant organizations\, and local elected leaders. The event celebrates the unique experiences of Portlanders of all ages and backgrounds. An estimated 5\,000 people took part in the Walk in 2018. \n“This event is a highlight of our Parks for New Portlanders program\,” says Portland Parks Commissioner Nick Fish. “We’re proud to welcome people of all backgrounds to Portland.” \nAll are welcome to take part\, to support and celebrate with everyone who calls the Rose City home. Afterwards enjoy delicious food\, multicultural music\, and family fun at Knott Park. \nFor more information about the Walk in English and several other languages\, please visit the event web page. \n“Portland Parks & Recreation welcomes everyone to our park places and spaces\,” says  Director Adena Long. “It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in the City for a week – or your entire life. We are proud to celebrate Portland’s newcomers and help show them they are welcomed\, appreciated\, and to introduce everyone to the wonders of Portland Parks & Recreation.” \n“Imagine never having had a country or community of your own – until arriving in Portland”\, says SB Langh\, a refugee from Southeast Asia. “I want to express my sincerest appreciation to Oregonians in general and to Portlanders in particular for their acceptance and support in all areas of our lives. The Walk with Refugees & Immigrants event shows us the love and care our neighbors have for the city’s newcomers.” \n\nAbout the Parks for New Portlanders program \nThe Parks for New Portlanders (PNP) program is part of Portland Parks & Recreation. The goal is to provide opportunities for recent immigrants and refugees to connect with the broader Portland community. PNP works with community partners and City leaders to design and implement culturally relevant programs. PNP strives to ensure that City services and spaces are welcoming and accessible to communities of color\, new immigrants\, and refugees. \nWith one in five Portlanders now foreign-born\, addressing the needs of this new and diverse population is crucial as they transition to Portland’s community. The PNP program hosts sporting events like Portland World Soccer in the summer and the Intercultural Basketball Tournament in the fall.

SUMMARY:Restorative Economics Webinar
DESCRIPTION:In order to truly address the debilitating income\, wealth\, and health inequality that impacts our most vulnerable low income and communities of color —one that has been made worse by climate disruption we must embrace a restorative approach to transforming our communities through local economic empowerment—a process focused on accountability\, reconciliation and restitution. When communities come together to collectively own and manage assets\, they can leverage their joint economic power to collectively assert their rights and exercise cultural and political power in a more impactful way than they would on their own. \nLong time social justice organizer and former EcoDistrict staff member\, Nwamaka Agbo\, will provide an overview of her innovative Restorative Economics framework\, and how she is applying it as an equitable development strategy. The webinar will walk attendees through the methodology and principles that inform her framework and take an in-depth look at a recent development project with a close analysis of the integrated capital stack and its implications for achieving the equitable development goals set for the projects. Participants will have an opportunity to reflect on how the financing of development projects can be leveraged to deepen equitable outcomes in low-income communities of color.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWebinar Instructor\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNwamaka Agbo has 10 years of experience working on social and economic justice issues that help support the sustainable and equitable development of communities. Previously\, as the Director of Programs at EcoDistricts\, Nwamaka led the Target Cities pilot program. She also was Director of Programs at Transform Finance\, where she launched the Transform Finance Institute for Social Justice. She holds a Bachelors in Sociology and African American Studies from UC Davis and a Masters of Public Administration from San Francisco State University.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here.
