Thousands of people walk and ride their bikes by this space every day and we aim to make it a place where people\, and pollinators\, can take a moment to enjoy the beauty of Portland. This space will enhance the original message of peace that Veterans For Peace created in the space\, and include a pollinator garden\, with information on their importance to our ecosystem. Soon we will be showcasing 3 park redesign options to gather public input on what the final design should be. Project partner PLACE Studios is providing the design alternatives and we will send information for when and where the meeting will be held. SUMMARY:Climate Change Kid Lawyer Camp!
DESCRIPTION:This is a great opportunity for middle schoolers (grades 6-8) to learn about law by doing it – using the Juliana kid climate case\, just argued by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals\, as a model. Young people can take parts as appellate lawyers for the kid plaintiffs or for the government defendants\, or if they prefer they can choose media roles as reporters or photographers. Experienced practitioners will guide them through climate science\, the federal government and justice systems\, the interesting legal doctrines in this case\, how to construct and deliver an argument\, how to capture images for maximum impact and how to interview people and write articles. This is a fun and empowering way to learn how the legal process works from different perspectives. Scholarships are available through Saturday Academy.

DESCRIPTION:Sustainability practitioners are frequently confronted with a tough question: “How do I measure that?” Here’s how.\n\n\n\n\nThis is a survey course on life cycle assessment. Participants will learn the steps involved and gain a basic understanding of the scope\, challenges and possibilities in applying life cycle assessment to decision-making processes. An introduction to the use of LCAs to support Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) based on Product Category Rules (PCRs) will also be included. \nThis course provides an overview for sustainability practitioners wondering if LCA would be a good field to get into; who may need to hire a firm to do a detailed LCA and need to know enough about the process to oversee the project; need to understand LCA to produce Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)\, especially those interested in having their products eligible for LEED credit points in the building and construction industry; or who need an introduction to LCA before taking the ‘deep dive’ into certification training as a practitioner.\n\nIt will be $25 for members and $55 for non-members. Successful completion of all course requirements will earn a passing grade and an individualized Certificate of Completion\, along with 1 CEU for ISSP-SA and ISSP-CSP credential holders.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nINSTRUCTOR\nJeff Yorzyk is a veteran of environmental and sustainability management consulting\, now bringing it all together for one company in the rapidly growing meal kit space. When communities come together to collectively own and manage assets\, they can leverage their joint economic power to collectively assert their rights and exercise cultural and political power in a more impactful way than they would on their own. \nLong time social justice organizer and former EcoDistrict staff member\, Nwamaka Agbo\, will provide an overview of her innovative Restorative Economics framework\, and how she is applying it as an equitable development strategy. The webinar will walk attendees through the methodology and principles that inform her framework and take an in-depth look at a recent development project with a close analysis of the integrated capital stack and its implications for achieving the equitable development goals set for the projects. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to maintain your bike\, diagnose and fix any issues that come up with regular riding! Bring your own bike or come just to learn. We’ll run through bearing\, shifting\, and braking systems\, and go over basic maintenance of a bike. \nLocated in the courtyard at People’s Food Co-op. Event is free but please reserve your space online. \nBikes for Humanity PDX is a SE-based non-profit that has been training members of our community to work on bikes for over a dozen years\, and fixing and redistributing bikes back into the community in the process. It is an interactive\, hands-on workshop that will give you the tools to control airflow and stay cool without AC\, save water and energy\, and stay safe during extreme heat.
