DESCRIPTION:In K-12 Education for Sustainability\, we document\, map and iterate our curricula.  Our units and courses are living documents that change over time with new knowledge and applied insights. There are many reasons why we do that\, much of which is applicable at Higher Education.  This webinar will be a practical session designed to explore with faculty the ways in which we can embed the attributes of Education for Sustainability into our curriculum/courses and our teaching.  We will draw from the “Educating for a Sustainable Future: Benchmarks for Individual and Social Learning” and the Cloud Institute’s “EfS Enduring Understandings\, Standards and Performance Indicators” as the references for the essential elements of Education for Sustainability.    Jaimie will discuss the brain science behind the kind of re-appraisal and re-framing required to learn for a sustainable future\, and will demonstrate with participants how to distinguish between Education about un-Sustainability\, education about Sustainability\, and Education for a sustainable future. \nJaimie Cloud is a thought leader in the field of Education for Sustainability. She has authored The Cloud Institute’s EfS Framework\, and several peer-reviewed journal chapters and articles on Sustainability and the significance of Education for Sustainability. Jaimie works extensively with educators\, administrators\, and school boards across the nation. She designs and facilitates professional development programs and directs the collaborative development of numerous instructional units and courses for K-12 and Higher Education designed to teach and learn across disciplines through the lens of sustainability. In addition to her commitment to furthering the mission of The Cloud Institute\, Jaimie owns Miracle Springs Farm in Gallatin\, NY where her team is making goat cheese and cultivating regenerative farming practices. The limitations of several current sustainability frameworks are presented\, and the “social trap” of educating within currently accepted worldviews is described. Anton will define a grounded philosophy that will enable sustainability leaders to overcome these barriers. \nParticipants will be invited to take part in an educational pilot project in association with Jeff Bridges and his latest film “Living in the Future’s Past.”  [Pre-registrants will receive background materials with the log-on URL for the webinar.] \nDr. Anton G. Camarota is Executive Director of Tellari\, a consultancy dedicated to helping business leaders build sustainable companies. Dr. Camarota has more than two decades of business advising experience with Fortune 1000 as well as numerous emerging companies and small businesses. An internationally published author of five books\, Anton has most recently written “The Thousand Year Company\,” which defines a comprehensive agenda for long-term business operations. A nationally recognized speaker\, Dr. Camarota offers keynotes and training sessions on leadership and management to a wide variety of organizations. DESCRIPTION:In May\, the weather typically gets warmer and many flowers are blooming. We will discuss reliable varieties of warm season crops\, including Tomatoes\, Squash\, Peppers\, and Cucumbers\, to grow in your garden that will produce well despite our cool summer evenings. Enhancing warm microclimates and providing protection are two strategies for increasing production of these heat loving plants. Many of these plants require insects for pollination. In this class\, you will learn about pollination\, pollinator insects\, and flowers that attract these companions to gardens. We will also highlight edible flowers\, their functions in the landscape\, and recipes. This class will also cover common weeds in the garden.
