DESCRIPTION:Local placemaking artist\, Daniel Granias\, will host an interactive discussion and community art workshop focusing on air quality and diesel pollution at the Southeast Campus on Tuesday\, April 23rd from 1-3pm. All are welcome. \nParticipants will gather in conversation around pollution – talking in groups about causes\, impacts\, and possible actions we can take as a community to make a difference. Granias is visiting different schools and community organizations in the Jade District of Southeast Portland to create a community placemaking art piece together. Participants will contribute to a tapestry\, incorporating up-cycled materials such as plastic bags\, disposable face masks\, and other pollution-related disposable objects that can be woven into the “network”. Each community workshop will create a section of the final art piece that he will display somewhere in our community.

DESCRIPTION:Have fun\, explore the outdoors\, share nature with others\, and become a volunteer with the Mount St. Helens Institute! Our volunteers help visitors from all over the world explore and learn about Mount St. Helens’ spectacular volcanic landscape. Join our volunteer community in a variety of exciting roles. With flexible scheduling\, including one-time and ongoing volunteer opportunities\, there’s a way for everyone to get involved. \n\nMountain Stewards: Hike\, climb\, and help make the outdoors a safe and enjoyable experience for all who adventure.\nVolcano Volunteers: Help visitors from around the world learn about the history\, geology\, and ecology of Mount St. Helens.\nConservation Corps: Help maintain trails around Mount St. Helens. SUMMARY:SDGs in Action Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Are you involved in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) where you live? Can you film it\, animate it or otherwise tell that story in a video? The SDGs in Action Film Festival\, coordinated by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ Division for SDGs\, seeks short films that highlight how people and organizations around the world are taking action for the 17 global goals. The Festival was launched in 2018 in connection with the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development that takes place each July at UN Headquarters in New York. The competition offers amateur filmmakers around the globe the chance to submit animated or live-action films up to 20 minutes long that showcase a person or project working on tangible solutions to the world’s biggest threats and making the SDGs our reality. \nEntries will be accepted in the following categories for 2019: \n\nProtecting our planet\nReducing inequalities\nBuilding peace\nEnsuring quality education and jobs\nYoung Filmmaker (24 years old or younger)\nSDGs in Virtual Reality/360 degrees (films 2 minutes or less)\n\nThe top video in each category will be shown at the SDGs in Action Film Festival in July 2019 at or near UN Headquarters in New York\, with the filmmakers invited to attend and participate in Festival-related activities. \nEnter here by 26 April: https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/hlpf/2019/filmfestival \nGood luck!
