SUMMARY:SDGs in Action Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Are you involved in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) where you live? Can you film it\, animate it or otherwise tell that story in a video? The SDGs in Action Film Festival\, coordinated by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ Division for SDGs\, seeks short films that highlight how people and organizations around the world are taking action for the 17 global goals. The Festival was launched in 2018 in connection with the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development that takes place each July at UN Headquarters in New York. The competition offers amateur filmmakers around the globe the chance to submit animated or live-action films up to 20 minutes long that showcase a person or project working on tangible solutions to the world’s biggest threats and making the SDGs our reality. \nEntries will be accepted in the following categories for 2019: \n\nProtecting our planet\nReducing inequalities\nBuilding peace\nEnsuring quality education and jobs\nYoung Filmmaker (24 years old or younger)\nSDGs in Virtual Reality/360 degrees (films 2 minutes or less)\n\nThe top video in each category will be shown at the SDGs in Action Film Festival in July 2019 at or near UN Headquarters in New York\, with the filmmakers invited to attend and participate in Festival-related activities. \nEnter here by 26 April: https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/hlpf/2019/filmfestival \nGood luck!

SUMMARY:Volunteer at the Children's Clean Water Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Children’s Clean Water Festival is a one-day environmental education event for 4th grade students from around the Portland Metro area. The Festival reinforces STEM\, Common Core and Next Generation Science concepts through water-focused classroom presentations\, exhibits and stage shows. \nVolunteers can get involved with the Festival in two ways: \n  \n\nGeneral volunteers are the glue that makes the Festival run smoothly\, and as a result\, play any number of roles throughout the day (e.g.helping exhibitors unload and load their materials\, setting up event signage\, directing students in and out of stage shows). General volunteers can sign up to help for part or the whole day. Typical time commitment 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. (unless otherwise specified by you below)\nClass guides lead a class around the campus making sure that they successfully get from activity to activity (activities are 25 minutes long and there is 10 minutes travel time between activities). Class guides volunteer for the entire event (7:45 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)\, and are provided time to orient themselves to the campus before their class arrives.

Clearly the food system must transform operations to reduce its carbon footprint and help avoid the worst impacts of climate change. \nSustainable growth requires a transformation in food systems through adoption of ag innovations\, commercialization of plant-based meat substitutes\, and dietary changes as well as policies and dietary guidelines that promote sustainable and resilience agricultural supply chains and consumer choices. How the public thinks about and accepts new food products is key to creating market demand for healthier and low carbon food.  \nJoin LightWorks and the Swette Center for Sustainable Food Systems at Arizona State University and SSF in a 90-minute exploration about how sustainable food companies are leading this transition and can scale sufficiently to lower climate impacts and what research and nonprofit centers are doing to aid the global transition to sustainable\, healthy and culturally appropriate food choices.
