DESCRIPTION:Grow Portland is a nonprofit organization dedicated to hands-on\, culturally-responsive school garden education. We partner with 14 public elementary schools serving over 6\,000 students each month. Grow Portland’s Garden School program uses school garden education to teach elementary students about environmental science and healthy eating. We place skilled garden educators in public schools to provide garden instruction and to facilitate productive garden management in partnership with teachers\, administrators\, and parents. \nWe are hiring two full-time positions (.85 FTE) and one half-time position. These positions will instruct and coordinate our garden education program at 3-4 schools each (see below). We welcome applications from people with passion and skills working in ethnically diverse communities. Grow Portland values all life\, work and educational experience that supports teaching students about gardening—we encourage you to apply and look forward to the possibility of working with you! \nJob Description\nGarden School Educators lead Grow Portland’s school gardening program at assigned public elementary schools. The Tree Equity Coordinator will assist the Tree Program to plan and develop urban forest and sustainable stormwater capacity in low tree-canopy\, low-income\, racially diverse communities in Portland. This position will build on the successes of previous AmeriCorps Members and will serve closely with the Stormwater Outreach Coordinator to develop and implement outreach and education programming. \nThe AmeriCorps member will connect with community groups\, organizations\, committees and leaders to cultivate partnerships for potential projects (30%); develop and organize materials\, activities and events to foster tree stewardship (25%); and plan and execute tree plantings and stewardship activities in low-tree-canopy\, low-income\, racially diverse communities in close cooperation with partners (25%). DESCRIPTION:Ecology in Classrooms and Outdoors (ECO) seeks an experienced\, goal oriented Executive Director to lead the organization into the next level of growth. This is a high profile position for an individual with a passion for environmental education. \nIdeal candidates possess proven leadership skills and fundraising experience required to drive a renewed and energized organization\, and must be knowledgeable about nonprofit administration\, fiscal management\, possess strong verbal and written communication skills\, and capably represent the organization in public. \nSuccessful candidates will possess a solid background in senior level management at a nonprofit organization and must have a working knowledge of fundraising and experience in development\, and demonstrated the ability to work with diverse partners\, audiences\, stakeholders\, and other community leaders. \nOrganization History \nEcology in Classrooms & Outdoors (ECO) was founded in 2005 to bring hands-on\, outdoor education to K-12 students. Programs occur during the school day\, after school\, and at summer camps. To date\, ECO has served over 26\,000 students in the greater Portland Metro area and along the Oregon Coast\, and has become a leader in the state in providing experiential outdoor education tied to educational standards. \nThe organization has recently completed a three-year Strategic & Fund Development Plan that will continue to support existing programs\, while also growing a new model in which ECO provides training and curriculum to teachers. If so\, you might be a great candidate to join Metro’s Recycling Information Center team as a temporary Recycling Specialist. We’re looking for a new team member who will help people in the Portland region find the information they need to recycle\, prevent waste and have a healthy home\, yard\, and garden. \nAs a Recycling Specialist for the Recycling Information Center\, you will work closely with other team members who are passionate about assisting the public and handle more than 80\,000 information referral phone calls each year. The majority of your time will be spent speaking on the phone with residents from across the greater Portland region as you connect them with businesses and organizations that provide recycling services and support reuse of products and materials. You will also teach people about ways they can prevent waste in their homes and businesses. You will also provide customer service support by taking phone calls for Metro’s recycled latex paint product\, MetroPaint\, as well as for customers of our Metro Central and Metro South transfer stations and hazardous waste facilities. Your work will be performed using a database and MS Office suite software. Knowledge of and experience in recycling and waste reduction education is preferred. Supervision is received from the Recycling Information Center program supervisor. \nThis temporary position is a great opportunity for people who currently work or seek a fairly flexible work schedule. Hours are inconsistent\, but are typically weekday\, Saturdays\, and occasional holiday hours. \nMultiple hires may be made from this applicant pool. \nTemporary Recycling Specialists fill in as needed to cover vacations\, leaves\, meetings and high volumes of calls due to promotional campaigns and seasonal variation. Two temporary positions are currently available. We anticipate considering candidates from this applicant pool when additional recycling specialist positions become available. Temporary employees may not work more than 1040 hours in a 12 month period. In acknowledgement of the many benefits to human and watershed health provided by Green Streets and other green infrastructure\, Stormwater Stewards pursue equity in service delivery. The Stormwater Outreach Coordinator position is a partnership between Confluence Environmental Center\, AmeriCorps Program and Bureau of Environmental Services\, Green Street Steward Program. \n  \nThe Stormwater Outreach Coordinator will build on the successes of previous AmeriCorps Members by inviting community members to participate in the care of Green Streets through community education and watershed stewardship activities. Green Streets function optimally for watershed health with knowledgeable residents to keep a watchful eye and assist in Green Street care. \nThe Member will connect with community groups\, organizations\, and businesses to cultivate partnerships for potential projects and stewardship activities (25%); develop and deliver training and stewardship activities in low-income\, racially diverse communities in close cooperation with partners (25%); recruit and train volunteers and manage data (20%); and develop and organize materials to foster Green Street stewardship (10%). This position will serve closely with the Tree Equity Coordinator to provide outreach\, education\, and programming in low-income\, racially diverse communities in Portland. DESCRIPTION:The Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District (TSWCD) is excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for an Invasive Species Technician! The application deadline is Friday\, June 7th at 12 PM. \nThis position will assist and report to the Invasive Species Program Coordinator regarding invasive species (plant or animal) data collection in the field\, data processing in the office\, and herbicide application to control smaller infestations of priority invasive plants at various new and existing properties within Washington County. The Invasive Species Technician will also communicate and/or coordinate (verbally or in writing) with landowners and provide presentations to the public about identifying and reporting priority invasive species. \nThe following education\, experience\, and certification is required to perform the duties of the position: \n\nMinimum of 18 months professional experience conducting invasive weed or plant surveys\, applying herbicides to control weeds\, and working with private landowners.\nA working knowledge of Microsoft Office products\, i.e. Excel\, Word\, PowerPoint;\nWorking knowledge of ESRI products; i.e. ArcGIS\, ArcCollector;\nMinimum of one year’s experience communicating orally to small and large groups.\nStrong written and oral communication skills;\nA strong knowledge of native and non-native plant species.\n\nMust have a valid Oregon driver’s license and clean driving record. The Council is a non-profit organization with a mission to preserve\, protect and enhance the watershed. Attendance at these events varies from 30 – 500 people at major events such as Explorando el Columbia Slough\, Regatta and Aquifer Adventure. Our offices is located at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park (7040 NE 47th Avenue\, Portland). See www.columbiaslough.org. \n  \nPosition Description: \nThe Outreach and Events Assistant will have an important role in our spring and summer outreach events and festivals. They will take a lead role in implementing events\, including event planning\, logistics & registration\, working with community partners\, gaining sponsors and organizing materials for the events. We wish to continue our strong partnerships in the Latinx communities by facilitating a community-led planning process for Explorando Festival with our partners at Verde. It will be helpful if the assistant can communicate competently in English and Spanish. This position will also assist with outreach and tabling\, communications & outreach materials creation\, event set-up/breakdown\, gear maintenance/organization and canoeing. \n  \nDuties and Responsibilities: \n\nEvent Coordination (50% of time): Roles include community outreach and planning\, event logistics\, registration management and event material creation/gathering with guidance from the Outreach Director. Leadership skills will be strengthened by helping to run workshops\,  paddle events and festivals.\nCommunications and outreach (30% of time): Promotion of events will include posting information online (websites and social media)\, speaking to groups and community partners\, and occasionally distributing flyers. The assistant will also be asked to update and create some of these materials.
