SUMMARY:National Climate Summit Indigenous Youth Video Contest
DESCRIPTION:The Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) is requesting video submissions from indigenous youth for a Tribal Climate Change video contest for the National Tribal Leadership Climate Change Summit. Up to four* winners will receive full travel awards ($900 maximum value*) and up to four* runners-up will receive partial travel awards ($400 maximum value*) to attend our in-person Summit in Seattle (May 16-20\, 2021). \nWe want to explore the impacts of climate change through the eyes\, experiences\, and passions of Indigenous youth. Entrants should submit a video relating to indigenous peoples and climate change\, while conveying a message of hope. See our collection of example videos for ideas and inspiration. DESCRIPTION:TEEN VOICES FOR RACIAL JUSTICE ESSAY CONTEST\nNever before in our history have teenagers been faced with such overwhelming uncertainty\, on so many different fronts. As a young adult\, you are coming of age in a world gripped by turmoil. This reality is not your doing\, nonetheless you find yourself in a fight to reverse generations of mistakes and centuries of oppression. \nRacism is a burden that hinders every aspect of society. It is likely that you’ve witnessed it at school\, on the news or scrolling through your timeline\, or maybe you’ve experienced it directly. You also understand it’s no longer enough simply to not be racist; instead\, we as Oregonians must be actively anti-racist and stop hiding behind our states “progressive” reputation. Neither is it sufficient to be colorblind; because true equality means recognizing every shade\, celebrating what makes us different\, while ensuring that those qualities do not lead to anything less than actual equality. With the Teen Voices for Racial Justice Essay Contest\, Portland Monthly & Cambia Health Solutions call to action those of you who do not remain on the sidelines. Perhaps you pass out fliers or march alongside fellow activists\, shouting the simple truth that Black Lives Matter. But you don’t stop there\, and we want to know what’s next. \nWhat is your vision for racial justice? In the face of adversity\, how do you commit yourself to bringing about real change? How are you driving the conversation\, within your family\, around your friends and throughout your community? Where have you seen success\, and what are some setbacks you have encountered? We want to read your ideas and hear your stories. DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) is to help ensure the quality\, vitality\, and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce of the United States. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing fulltime research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in science\, technology\, engineering\, and mathematics (STEM) or in STEM education. The GRFP provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant research achievements in STEM or STEM education. NSF actively encourages women\, members of underrepresented minority groups\, persons withdisabilities\, veterans\, and undergraduate seniors to apply. \nEach Fellowship provides three years of support during a five-year fellowship period. For each of the three years of support\, NSF provides a $34\,000 stipend and $12\,000 cost of education allowance to the graduate degree-granting institution of higher education for each Fellow who uses the support in a fellowship year. SUMMARY:RCE Asia-Pacific SDG Youth Challenge 2020: EOI Open Now!
DESCRIPTION:The 2020 RCE SDG Youth Challenge ‘Youth for the Goals’ is an exciting and unique youth-led initiative focused on delivering the SDGs at a local level. This year\, the Challenge will be focusing on SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities\, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production\, and SDG 15: Life on Land. Projects are welcome from any RCEs interested in participating. \nConceived by Asia-Pacific youth leaders at RCE Greater Western Sydney (Australia) and RCE Yogyakarta (Indonesia)\, the Challenge uses a peer-to-peer learning model coupled with virtual mentoring support to empower and enable youth leaders to engage with each other and to deliver grassroots projects that matter to them and their communities. \nThe Challenge invites young people to get empowered and engaged in their local communities and RCE networks. Youth are invited to either create their own or build on an existing project\, with support from their RCE or an organisation\, that will make a difference for them\, their community\, and the planet. Projects could include creating a video documentary\, youth camps\, leadership programme\, school workshops\, clean-up events\, art installations and more – the choice is yours as long as it is in line with the Challenge theme (SDG 11\, 12 and/or 15\, underpinned by SDG 4). Projects must be led by a youth lead (35 years or younger)\, can be run by an individual or team (team doesn’t have to be youth exclusively) who are committed to the project from February – October 2020. \nTo date\, the challenge has engaged directly with over 19\,000 youth and delivered 39 individual sustainability youth-led projects across nine countries. DESCRIPTION:K-12 students from the United States and Canada are invited to participate in a recycling contest by creating a video or a poster that imagines what recycling will look like in 50\, 75\, or even 100 years from now by designing a solution to a current problem. You could win a trip to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries’ 2020 Annual Convention and Expo in Las Vegas\, Nevada!. Register to participate or learn more here. (To participate\, each school simply needs to register a Teacher Champion to coordinate on its behalf.) \nStudents and Teacher Champions who participate in the essay competition will be eligible to participate in a National Debate on the same theme in Spring 2020\, leading to an International Online Debate (among the top performing students)\, and Teacher Champions Exchange\, in Summer 2020. For the first time ever\, the international events will take place online to help support the broadest possible participation from around the world.

DESCRIPTION:The Community Watershed Stewardship Program (CWSP) is accepting pre-applications for Stewardship Grants\, through Friday\, February 7.  CWSP provides stewardship grants of up to $12\,000 each for projects that help Portlanders make improvements in their neighborhoods and communities while also improving watershed health. \nProjects that can be funded include: \n\nNeighborhood safety\, health and livability\nYouth leadership and skills development\nCommunity gardens and green spaces\nArt and education\nCleanup and restoration\nStormwater Management\n\nInterested? \nCWSP has scheduled two grant-writing workshops to answer your questions and help you write compelling applications.
