SUMMARY:World Localization Day: Local Future
DESCRIPTION:Be part of this progressive\, inspirational and life-affirming movement for change! \nFor decades\, the localization movement has been emerging at the\ngrassroots on every continent\, under the radar of the mainstream media\nand with virtually no support from government. People have been\nreweaving the fabric of place-based economies that are human-scale and\nhuman-paced: economies that can serve as cornerstones for community\nand personal wellbeing. By shortening the link between production and\nconsumption\, they have reconnected both to each other and to the Earth.\nThis is the economics of happiness. \nLocalization is about \nsupporting local shops\, local farms and local businesses. It’s about keeping money within the community. It’s about investing in the place where you live– financially\, emotionally\,practically. It’s about building on the resources of the area (both human\nand natural) and living with ecological limits. It’s about saying no to giant unaccountable corporations. And it’s about pressing for political change: to move taxes\, subsidies and regulations away from supporting a few global monopolies towards a multitude of place-based businesses and industries. \nAfter COVID-19\, we can return to stressful disconnected lives and climate catastrophe\, or we can slow down\, scale down and rebuild our connections to each other and to the Earth. \n\n\nThis pre-recorded event will include \n\n\n\n\n\nTalks\nDiscussion\nMusic\nCelebrity Endorsements\nAnimations\nPolitical humour\nQ&A forum\nLive chat\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here for this World Localization Day! \nDonations greatly appreciated. \n

SUMMARY:UN75 Virtual Consultation: Oregon
DESCRIPTION:This consultation is for Oregon residents only. \nThis year\, the United Nations celebrates its 75th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone\, UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced that the UN is hosting the world’s largest global conversation on creating the future we want by 2045\, when the UN celebrates its centennial. The UN is inviting civil society\, businesses\, political decision-makers\, youth advocates and so many others to share their thoughts on the current state of the world\, and is asking us all how we can work together to improve our world so that everyone\, everywhere\, can live their best lives. \nTo provide UN advocates with an opportunity to share their visions and recommendations\, UNA-USA is hosting virtual state-wide UN75 consultations across the country over the next few months. UNA-USA is inviting you to participate in Oregon’s virtual UN75 consultation to share your thoughts with the UN. \nFor these consultations\, the UN is asking three major questions:\n1. What kind of future do we want to create?\n2. Are we on track to secure a better world?\n3. What action is needed to help us achieve a brighter future? \nFollowing each of these consultations\, a report will be submitted to the UN to share advocates’ recommendations to help shape the UN’s priorities for the future. \n  \nREGISTER HERE. \n  \n

SUMMARY:2021-24 Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program (MTIP) Comments
DESCRIPTION:The 2021-24 Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program (MTIP) is now open for public comment. \nThe MTIP is an important guiding document for the region. Prepared by Metro every four years\, it records how all federal transportation money is spent in the Portland metropolitan area. It also records state- and locally-funded projects that may significantly affect the region’s air quality. \nThe 2021-2024 MTIP is not a bold\, equitable climate action plan; it is a direct pipeline to construction of fossil fuel infrastructure. Before we protest construction of this fossil fuel infrastructure in four years\, let’s begin shaping the future now. \nLearn more and see sample comments\, or head straight to the survey to give your feedback. Deadline Monday May 18. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCheck out our talking points here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTake the survey here!

SUMMARY:Senior Advocates Generational Equity: A House Divided
DESCRIPTION:Every American is affected by the divisions and outrage that prevent us from making progress on urgent problems. We are finding it harder and harder to even talk with one another\, and it is damaging in many ways. During our June 10 forum\, we will help participants deliberate together about how we should approach this long-term challenge.\n\nWe recognize there are no easy answers to the problem. Should we require more accurate\, respectful discussion in the media and online\, or would that stifle free speech? Should we reform politics and government to encourage compromise\, or will that mean giving up on the changes we really need and want? Should local communities set policies in areas like health care and the environment\, or would that risk the progress we’ve made and make further progress nearly impossible? Should we crack down on money in politics\, or will people just find new ways to evade the rules?\n\nOur part of the solution to these divisions is to bring people together from diverse backgrounds to listen and learn from one another. During this event\, we’ll present three options for deliberation about difficult problems. Each option offers advantages as well as risks. And each reflects different ways of understanding what is at stake\, forcing us to think about what matters most to us.\n\nAt the close of the forum\, you can expect to have learned more about the pros and cons of the options from different viewpoints. We also hope that you will make personal connections with other participants and that some participants will use practices from the forum to host similar conversations.\n\nOur first online forum filled within 15 minutes\, register for our second here!
