SUMMARY:The Peoples of Western Oregon
DESCRIPTION:Wisdom of the Elders\, a Native-run\, Oregon non-profit\, in partnership with the Northwest Film Center\, will premiere two new one-hour programs in its Native Wisdom Documentary Film Series about today’s changing climate and how it is affecting Native Oregonians’ traditional foods and resources. \nThe documentaries feature gifted tribal elders and indigenous scientists and their observations of ecosystems on their reservation and ceded lands where they hunt\, fish and gather traditional First Foods and medicines. The films show how traditional ecological knowledge is now influencing decisions by natural resource managers in Oregon on wildlife and resource management\, and how Oregon Tribes are leading the way for the nation in habitat and species restoration. \nPortland-based Wisdom of the Elders\, founded by the late Martin High Bear (Lakota) and his wife Rose High Bear (Athabascan)\, has been collecting Native oral histories\, stories on history\, culture and music for 25 years. Known for their award-winning radio series\, “Wisdom of the Elders Radio\,” and The Northwest Indian Storytellers Festival\, Wisdom has started to develop documentary films. The video series “Native Wisdom\,” includes programs on Alaskan Athabascan and Inupiat Tribes. The new pair of films\, entitled “The Peoples of Western Oregon” and “The Peoples of Eastern Oregon\,” will screen once only at 2:30pm and 4pm with a short break in between.

SUMMARY:Volunteer at the Children's Clean Water Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Children’s Clean Water Festival is a one-day environmental education event for 4th grade students from around the Portland Metro area. The Festival reinforces STEM\, Common Core and Next Generation Science concepts through water-focused classroom presentations\, exhibits and stage shows. \nVolunteers can get involved with the Festival in two ways: \n  \n\nGeneral volunteers are the glue that makes the Festival run smoothly\, and as a result\, play any number of roles throughout the day (e.g.helping exhibitors unload and load their materials\, setting up event signage\, directing students in and out of stage shows). General volunteers can sign up to help for part or the whole day. Typical time commitment 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. (unless otherwise specified by you below)\nClass guides lead a class around the campus making sure that they successfully get from activity to activity (activities are 25 minutes long and there is 10 minutes travel time between activities). Class guides volunteer for the entire event (7:45 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)\, and are provided time to orient themselves to the campus before their class arrives.
