SUMMARY:Introduction to Sustainable Finance
DESCRIPTION:It is with great pleasure that GIZ\, SEB and PAGE launch the e-learning course “Introduction to Sustainable Finance” available free-of-charge through UN CC:e-Learn. \nThe course is a tool to learn about the basics of Sustainable Finance while providing several opportunities to dive deeper. The triple bottom line\, which Sustainable Finance advocates\, measures not only economic returns\, but also positive environmental and social returns. In this e-learning participants will learn about sustainable financial products\, ESG risks\, market trends\, regulation and the challenges ahead. \nThe e-learning course shares valuable insights of the Strategic Alliance of GIZ and SEB and our technical partner CICERO\, gained during activities in emerging economies and interactions with market participants worldwide. Furthermore\, it builds on SEB’s path-breaking collaborations with Sustainable Finance leaders such as The World Bank\, EIB\, KfW\, ADB\, AfDB\, and a large amount of institutional investors. \nWe hope the course creates value for its participants and contributes to the building of awareness\, knowledge and dialogue. \nThe course is aimed at: \n·         Banking professionals \n·         Individuals or institutions that are considering to issue or invest in sustainable securities \n·         Professionals involved in underwriting\, research\, consultancy or other professional services for sustainable financial instruments \n·         Policy makers and government officials involved in setting up policy frameworks for sustainable development and in particular sustainable finance \n·         Other individuals/students/institutions with an interest in sustainable finance \nAfter completing the course\, participants will be able to: \n·         Describe\, understand and discuss current developments and trends in the area of sustainable finance; \n·         Distinguish between different types of sustainable finance products and relevant eligibility criteria; \n·         Understand the relevance of environmental\, social and governance (ESG) risks\, including climate-related risks \n·         Discuss opportunities\, challenges\, and enabling conditions for countries to benefit from growing sustainable investment opportunities; \n·         Identify opportunities for the public and private sectors to issue green bonds and green loans. \nThe e-learning programme is divided into three modules: \n1.      Fundamentals of Sustainable Finance \n2.      The Sustainable Finance Market \n3.      Sustainable Finance Products: Green Bonds and Green Loans \nEach module is composed of several lessons. Participants can navigate through the modules and lessons according to their individual interests and level of knowledge. \nAvailable on UN CC:e-Learn.

SUMMARY:Free UN Sustainable Development Courses
DESCRIPTION:Adopted by the United Nations in 2015\, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 goals with 169 targets that the UN is committed to working towards through the year 2030 with the hope of creating lasting positive change and freedom in the general areas of People\, Planet\, Prosperity\, Peace\, and Partnership. The purpose of these goals is to create a framework for development programs that will focus on eradicating poverty\, hunger\, violence\, fear\, and disease and promoting literacy\, equality\, human rights\, sanitation and hygiene\, education\, and physical\, mental\, and social well-being. These goals are meant to build on the Millennium Development Goals and work towards the three key areas the UN identifies for sustainability\, which are economic\, social\, and environmental development. \nThe SDG Initiative\nIn addition to the implementation of the SDGs\, 17 various universities have worked to create an initiative to educate learners about the SDGs and how they can contribute to achieving them. Coursera is the primary platform where these courses are offered for the general public in the form of online classes with the hope of increasing participation in the work being done towards these goals. The courses often provide a hands-on experience with an NGO or international organization who is working to achieve the SDGs through their work. The participating universities hope to offer a global education on these goals and ways to get involved. \nThe SDGs and Courses Offered\nThe SDGs are 17 goals with a total of 169 targets among them\, most of which are meant to be achieved by 2030. These goals strive to work towards sustainable economic\, social\, and environmental development on a global scale. You can read in-depth reports about these goals and the progress being made towards achieving them at https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org. Courses offered through the SDG initiative cover one or more of the goals through Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). \nNo poverty (Goal 1)\n\nGoal 1—No poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere. The hope for this goal is to eliminate extreme poverty by 2030 (defined by people living under $1.25/day) and to reduce the number of men\, women\, and children living in poverty by at least half. It also strives to implement social protections and measures for all people\, including increasing and ensuring equal economic and social access for all people and reducing the vulnerability of the poor to situations such as climate-related events and other shocks and disasters.\n\nAvailable MOOCs on SDG 1: \n\nLeiden University (SDG Partner Project)\nPolitical Economy of Institutions and development\nPROJECT Partnering with Development Done Differently. Participants will analyse a (local) NGO and suggest possible improvements for effectiveness. \nUniversity of Taiwan (SDG Partner Project)\nWelfare and Rights of Youth\nPROJECT Working with local Taiwan organisations. The goal of the project is to facilitate the action of protecting children and youth and to create strategies promoting their rights. Note: Course is in Chinese\nOther courses available:\n\nUniversity of Geneva: Children’s Human Rights: An Interdisciplinary Introduction\nUniversity of Oslo: What Works: Promising Practices in International Development\nUniversity of York: Improving Children’s Lives: Reducing Child Poverty and Inequality Around the World\nHarvard University: Child Protection: Children’s Rights in Theory and Practice\nUniversity of Copenhagen: The Sustainable Development Goals – A global\, transdisciplinary vision for the future\n\n\n\n  \nFor a Full List of classes for all of the SDGs\, click here.
