The magnitude 9.0 earthquake, ensuing tsunami, and nuclear meltdowns of 2011 showed Japan the importance of sharing limited electric power during the disaster and the year-long recovery. And Japan learned sharing wasn’t easy using their existing grid. They have set out to change this. Delightfully, the investments needed to improve sharing not only increase the grid’s resilience but help the grid accommodate increasing amounts of wind and solar energy. And it pays for itself.
