Join together with peers and partners for the opening session of the 2020-21 online Building Environmental & Climate Literacy professional development series. Teachers, scientists, and environmental & climate educators explore tool kits, lessons, inclusive and culturally relevant connections, data sources for local air, water, and other environmental indicators, distance & hybrid lessons and tools, and more.
During this morning of lively interactive learning, you will hear from two inspirational and informative keynote speakers. You’ll have opportunities to ask questions, network, and hear directly from partners from science centers, outdoor educators, scientists, and other resource partners who can help you discover ways to bring inclusive, meaningful learning to life for your students. Discover tools and strategies for facilitating student-driven lessons and action projects — empower your students to be informed, effective, and engaged.
Leena Bakshi of STEM4Real will address teaching about clean air, clean water, energy and other climate issues using a racial justice lens.
Kate Carter of the National Center for Science Education will address engaging with scientists & participating in citizen science projects. Building teacher-scientist partnerships provide powerful learning experiences for students, with real-world connections.
