Get a jump start on Earth Week and help build native tree canopy and wildlife habitat in the company of other GPSEN folk. Bring yourself and your friends or loved ones for this hands-on planting with veteran FoT crew leader Conan Harmon-Walker and GPSEN senior adviser Lin Harmon-Walker. If you’ve never planted with Friends of Trees before, you are in for a memorable experience!
Get ready for the planting with these helpful tips from Friends of Trees (pay particular attention to dressing for the occasion):
What We’ll Do: FoT will be planting hundreds of native trees and shrubs to increase the tree canopy and beauty at a popular community park! Breakfast snacks and coffee/tea/hot chocolate are provided for all volunteers to get you fueled up for planting.
Where to Meet: Durham City Park, 17085 SW Arkenstone Dr, Portland, 97224 (map) *please park in the small parking lot or find nearby street parking and look for the “Friends of Trees” signs as you get close [and then look for the GPSEN sign near the registration area]
When: Saturday, March 30th, 9:00am-1:00pm — please meet by 8:45am at the staging site listed above. Tree planting activities will start promptly at 9am and wrap up by 1pm.
How to register for this event: All individuals and groups are kindly asked to RSVP to save your spot(s) by filling out FoT’s quick Registration Form. Registration is highly recommended but not required. Under age 18? A signed youth waiver is required for you to volunteer. We ask that youth 15 years and younger are accompanied by an adult.
Planting Trees is Muddy Business: To ensure everyone is set up for a successful day, please dress for the weather and the work. Work gloves (including youth sizes) and guidance are provided, but we ask that you wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots (rain boots are perfect), and rain-ready layers that you don’t mind getting a little dirty! **If you or anyone in your group does not have the proper attire mentioned above, please contact Jenny Bedell-Stiles at JennyB@friendsoftrees.org a few days in advance at as FoT has some items that they can loan you for planting day.**
We look forward to seeing you there!
