Spring Course: Introduction To Nonprofits and Philanthropy at PCC

Portland Community College’s BA 208 “Intro to Nonprofits & Philanthropy” surveys the role of the nonprofit and voluntary organizations in American society including the history, theory and challenges of the third sector. Includes the Students4Giving service learning project where students serve as philanthropists to their local community.
- Student Philanthropists – Through a term long Students4Giving project, students in this course become philanthropists by awarding grants to local nonprofits working in a community area determined by the class. Students learn about the steps of the grant funding process by executing those steps in the course.
- Nonprofit Curriculum – The curriculum includes working in the nonprofit sector, resources available to nonprofits, nonprofit funding, and starting a nonprofit.
- General Education Credit – This course meets general education requirements for social studies.
