The SUNY COIL Center is hosting a global online discussion of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during International Education Week. We invite participation in any language and encourage contributions from all over the world. Participants can join the conversation on either platform at any time.
We are offering two platforms for the discussions. Slow Twitter chats will unfold over the course of each day, allowing participants to join when they like, while also allowing immediate responses and synchronous discussions. Padlet is an online collaboration tool in the form of a discussion board, where participants can post reflections, questions, videos and photos, and respond to other posts in threaded comments. Twitter requires an account, but Padlet can be accessed as a guest.
Students, staff, and professors can pick one or more of the SDGs to discuss. There are separate channels for discussion of each SDG. Each day we will post a question for reflection and comment. Questions will move from defining the issues, to taking stock of existing approaches in different parts of the world, to idea generation, to commitment to action.
This is a great way to engage students, staff, and faculty with their peers around the world on issues that impact all of us. This online event is free and open to the public, and we encourage you to share this opportunity with your colleagues and networks. The event website has information about the event, how to join, and how to learn more about the SDGs, which you can find at http://bit.ly/17roomsu. We have created materials you can use to promote participation here: http://bit.ly/17roomsudocs.
