Investigating Crayfish + Freshwater Ecosystems: Science Educator Workshop

Learn to engage grade 2-16 students in fascinating crayfish studies in this hands-on STEAM workshop. Rick Reynolds, veteran educator and author of Investigating Crayfish + Freshwater Ecosystems, will team up with Eric Larson, Ph.D. other partners from The River Mile Network to step you through student activities including scientific investigations in your local watershed. Gain confidence to participate with The River Mile’s Crayfish Study citizen science project to support important research by scientists and wildlife managers.

Schedule

  • Intro. to crayfish + freshwater ecosystems with hands-on materials
  • Overview of lesson plans aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards + Common Core State Standards
  • Hands-on activities, including some outside on the beautiful Willamette River
  • Lunch (included)—can be enjoyed outside!
  • More lessons + hands-on activities

Learn how different tools can be used to monitor native and invasive crayfish, assess water quality, and collect, analyze, and share data and student observations to benefit people and wildlife. Meet NGSS and CCSS while integrating the arts and all content areas.

You can earn PD contact hours or college credit through participation in this enjoyable Saturday experience which will include time to network. Space is limited, so please RSVP here. Participants are asked to bring their own tablet and/or other mobile devices, if possible.
